Los Angeles Police Officer Dead

THOUSAND OAKS >> The Los Angeles police officer found dead in an apparent suicide at his Ventura County home this week has been identified as Senior Lead Officer Craig Majors of the West Valley Division, the LAPD reported Wednesday.
The 39-year-old officer died Tuesday afternoon at his Thousand Oaks residence following a 9-1-1 call to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department involving an alleged domestic disturbance, authorities said.
Majors was a 12-year-veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department, said Officer Liliana Preciado, a spokeswoman for the agency. The burly officer with a shaved head, identified in a January photo as an Encino senior lead officer working out of West Valley Division, was officially listed as a training officer, she said.
A Ventura County Coroner’s Office declined to release information Tuesday pending a news release from the Sheriff’s Department, and a sheriff’s spokesman and a detective involved in the case could not immediately be reached for comment.
“It’s a great loss to the community and to the Police Department,” said Nani Shaked, who knew Majors through her work as a volunteer and co-chair for the West Valley Division Community Police Advisory Board. “He was a hardworking officer who took his job seriously. He was very passionate about helping the community.
“The partnerships he built were amazing. He was always, ‘How can we solve this together?’ ”
At 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, deputies were called to Majors’ house during an alleged domestic dispute in the 3100 block of Apache Circle.
When deputies arrived, they made contact with a woman who’d managed to flee the home, said Detective Tim Lohman. Police for hours had tried to call the man inside by phone but were unable to get him to respond.
Between 6:30 and 6:50 p.m., deputies entered the house and found a body later identified as Majors. Police and coroner’s officials have not explained how the officer died
